Le Tour de Finance Paris 15th April 2015

By Spectrum IFA
This article is published on: 20th April 2015

The Spectrum IFA group was delighted to host the Paris stage of Le Tour de Finance at the British Embassy in Paris on Wednesday 15th April 2015.

A wonderful venue with equally wonderful staff. The Paris event was one of the highlights of the 2015 tour and the first time that it has been held at this very prestigious venue.

Many thanks to the Franco British Chamber of Commerce (FBCCI) and the Institute of Directors for their support of Le Tour. The event was attended by 80 people and finished with a networking buffet, allowing everyone the opportunity to both meet the speakers and also to meet other Paris-based expatriates.

The event was opened by Mr Robert (Bob) Lewis, Chairman of the FBCCI and was followed by presentations from Spectrum, Peterson Sims (UK & French Accountants), Prudential International (Assurance Vie), Currencies Direct (FX Specialists), Tilney Bestinvest (Discretionary Fund Managers), Heslop & Platt Solicitors (Specialist Estate Planners) and Aberdeen Asset Management (Fund Managers). Feedback was extremely positive and given the number of questions raised during the networking cocktail, it was clear that the attendees truly did appreciate the opportunity to avail themselves of the information on offer.

Le Tour de Finance now moves to the South of France for 3 events in May.

CASTIGLIONE DEL LAGO – 20TH APRIL

SAN GINESIO – 21ST APRIL

For those of you who know me well you will be aware that I am always a little preoccupied with our Tour de Finance events and that I am always keen to make sure the audience is not bored to tears with dull presentations. I don’t always get it right  and have made some presentation mistakes in the past but improved on those in the ‘Forum’ events over the last 2 years.

Now I am ready to take our Tour de Finance events to another level and start to show you how to use all the tax, residency and financial information that I have been writing about and presenting for some time.

With that in mind, I have decided to make this spring the Tour de Finance 2015
‘CASE STUDY SESSIONS’.

Since 2012 and the introduction of the raft of tax and financial changes in Italy, a new norm of financial planning has evolved.  In the ‘CASE STUDY SESSIONS’ I would like to show you how we can all fit into that new norm and make living in Italy that little bit easier.

As usual the events will be FREE open question and answer events.  We will also return with our preferred team of experts who will be on hand to answer questions.

If you are interested in attending these events then they are going to be held on the following days and in the following places:

Castiglione del Lago (Umbria)

Monday 20th April
Michele & Co – Pastisserie

San Ginesio (Le Marche)

Tuesday 21st April
Palazzo Morichelli D’Altemps

The events will open for arrival at 10.30am and start at 11am promptly.  The session will end at approx 1pm.  A FREE buffet with wine and water will be served afterwards where you will have a chance to  speak with the experts directly and have a chance to meet your friends and acquaintances.

DUE TO LARGE NUMBERS AT SOME PREVIOUS EVENTS NUMBERS WILL BE LIMITED TO A MAXIMUM OF 25 PEOPLE SO WE HAVE THE TIME TO ANSWER QUESTIONS SUFFICIENTLY DURING THE MORNING.

GARETH HORSFALL (THAT’S ME) , THE SPECTRUM IFA GROUP (ITALY)
Presenting the Case Studies and the best way to plan around the Italian tax system.

ROB WALKER, INVESTMENT DIRECTOR
RATHBONES INVESTMENT MANAGEMENT UK.
Rob will be talking about financial marketss.  Greece, the EU, USA and the markets to watch in the coming months and years and how they may all affect us in the near future.

SEB LIFE INTERNATIONAL.
Andrew will explain the tax benefits of the Life Assurance Investment Bond as a tax efficient vehicle in Italy, what are it’s uses and what purpose it serves.

The Spectrum IFA Group Economic Forum

By Spectrum IFA
This article is published on: 2nd February 2015

We have just had our annual conference, The Spectrum Economic Forum. We had presentations from leading investment managers including BlackRock (the world’s largest investment house), J P Morgan Asset Management, Rathbones, Kames Capital, Jupiter Asset Management and Henderson Global Investors.

The conference is a great opportunity for us to hear directly from some of the investment management companies, which we recommend for the investment of our clients’ financial assets. Their collective forward-looking views on markets and key issues for 2015 provided us with a valuable insight, so that we are better able to advise our clients.

We also had presentations from several product providers, including Prudential International, Old Mutual International (formerly Skandia International), SEB Life International and Tilney Best Invest (who also provide discretionary asset management services). All companies gave interesting presentations on developments in their products, which are focused upon the needs of expatriates.

The conference is always a good opportunity to get together with colleagues from the six countries in which we operate. It’s a chance for us to exchange views and discuss issues that are common to all our clients, wherever they live.

There was agreement amongst us that one of the biggest potential ‘issues’ that the financial services industry is facing this year is the subject of pensions, as a result of the forthcoming UK pensions reform. Many Spectrum advisers expressed concern about predatory companies that are already operating, which could result in people unwisely cashing in their UK pension pots. The importance of obtaining professional advice from qualified advisers, who are regulated by the authorities in the country where the pension scheme member is living, was highlighted.

We were fortunate to have Momentum Pensions present to us, which is the first company to be able to offer a truly multi-jurisdictional pension solution for clients. Like us, Momentum has their clients’ best interests at heart and they understand that expatriates can move from one country to another. Therefore, Momentum has now added a UK Self Invested Pension Plan to their range of international pension solutions, which means that even if the client moves back to the UK, they can have a smooth transfer of the pension benefits from the overseas pension scheme back to the UK.

As can be seen from the above, we are constantly working closely with investment managers and product providers to find the best solutions for our clients, whether this is for the investment of financial capital, using tax-efficient solutions, pensions or inheritance planning. This forms an important part of our Client Charter

Planning for Le Tour de Finance 2015 is also now underway. As many people reading this know, this event is a perfect opportunity to come along and meet industry experts on financial matters that are of interest to expatriates.
We are now taking bookings for May 2015 events, please contact us here:

  • Perpignan – 19th May
  • Bize-Minervois – 20th May
  • Montagnac – 21st May

Le Tour de Finance is an increasingly popular event and early booking is recommended. So if you would like to attend one of these events, please contact me to reserve your places.

Le Tour de Finance Oct 2014_2The Spectrum IFA Group took part in the recent legs of Le Tour de Finance covering 3 separate events in the South of France – Domaine de Saint Endreol (the Var), Chateau la Coste (Aix en Provence) and Domaine Gayda (nr. Carcassonne).

More than 150 expatriates attended the events to hear from a panel of financial services professionals (pictured) on a broad range of financial issues relevant to those of us living and/or working in France. Topics covered included Investments, Pensions advice (QROPs), Wills, Inheritance planning and Taxation.

The seminar was followed by a Q&A session along with a buffet where attendees had an opportunity to mingle and speak directly to the experts in order to ask specific questions relevant to their personal circumstances.

The companies represented were: Currencies Direct, SEB Life International, Standard Bank, Prudential International and Hent Artwell Avocats (Tax Lawyers). Feedback from those attending has been very positive and plans are already in an advance stage for Le Tour events during 2015.

Le Tour de Finance ‘FORUM’ 2014 – Italy

By Gareth Horsfall
This article is published on: 14th October 2014

Join us in San Ginesio (Le Marche)
and Barga (Tuscany)

The Tour de Finance 2014 is back for its autumn tour and this time we are visiting the East coast of Italy and returning to Tuscany.

Every year we bring a group of financial experts on the road in Italy to talk directly to expats about the financial considerations and concerns that they are facing.

We will be returning on:

23rd October – Palazzo Morichelli D’Altemps San Ginesio, Le Marche

24th October – Nr Bagni di Lucca at La Cantina delle Pianacce (Ghivizzano)

www.lacantinadellepianacce.it

Arrival time: 10.30am for coffee, with start time at 11am. The Forum questions and answers is followed by a FREE buffet lunch, wine and an opportunity to meet your fellow expats.

What is the Forum?

No more powerpoint presentations and structured presentations!

The Forum events are designed to put the speakers on the spot and deliver the answers to the financial questions you need to know, rather than the information we think you should know.

You may be interested in knowing the answers to some of the following questions:

  • What are the likely implications of being a resident or non resident and living in Italy?
  • What are the benefits of being subject to Inheritance tax in Italy?
  • What are the Italian tax rates that my income is subject to?
  • With world financial markets rising and falling almost daily, how can I find a way to benefit from these movements without taking too much risk?
  • How can I gain more interest on my savings when bank rates are so low?
  • As the world economy limps on what can be done to make my money work better for me?

Questions will be asked for one hour before lunch so it is an opportunity to put the experts ‘on the spot’

The Panel of experts will include:

Richard Brown and Julian Hall:
BEST INVEST Leading UK Investment and financial planning firm with over £9 billion of assets under management.

Judith Ruddock:
STUDIO DEL GAIZO PICCHIONI Cross border tax specialists and commercialisti.

Andrew Lawford:
SEB LIFE INTERNATIONAL He will be facing questions about tax efficient savings vehicles for Italy and ways to potentially. reduce your Inheritance tax liabilties.

I hope you will register your attendance. And I hope that the FORUM event will avoid all the boredom of powerpoint presentations and make the morning much more interactive for you.

If you would like to register for this event then you can do so by sending your full contact details to info@spectrum-ifa.com or call Gareth Horsfall on 0039 333 6492356.

Investments and investment risk

By Spectrum IFA
This article is published on: 16th September 2014

As I am writing this article, the hot topic of the moment is of course the Scottish Referendum on Independence. The polls are swinging from one direction to the other, but only by a small margin between the ‘yes’ and the ‘no’ camps. The final result will most likely be very close.

Even the Queen has uncharacteristically got a little involved in the politics, by expressing her hope to a well-wisher in Scotland that people will think very carefully about the future. Whatever the result of the referendum, it is clear that the United Kingdom will change.

What will happen to investment markets if Scotland votes yes? Well the wider world outside of Scotland seems to have woken up to what is actually happening in Scotland. Sterling has weakened amidst the uncertainty of the outcome, but beyond this, I am not bold enough to forecast any further effect on markets. Like any other investment risk, it needs to be managed.

On this subject, The Spectrum IFA Group has produced a Guide to Investment Risk. This has been written in plain, no nonsense, down-to-earth English and covers a range of assets classes and strategies. The individual articles included in the Guide can be found on our website at: spectrum-ifa.com/spectrums-guide-to-investment-risk/

Alternatively, if you would like to receive a full copy of this Guide, please contact me.

We are also taking bookings for our Autumn client seminar – “Le Tour de Finance – Bringing Experts to Expats”. Our industry experts will be presenting updates and outlooks on a broad range of subjects, including:

  •  Financial Markets
  • Assurance Vie
  • Pensions/QROPS
  • Structured Investments
  • French Tax issues
  • Currency Exchange

Places for our seminars are limited and must be reserved, in advance. So if you would like to attend the event, please contact me as soon as possible. The date for the local seminar is
Friday, 10th October 2014 at the Domaine Gayda, 11300 Brugairolles.

Alternatively, if you are reading this further afield, you may be interested in attending one of our other events:

  • Wednesday, 8th October – St Endréol, 83920, La Motte, the Var.
  • Thursday, 9th October – Chateau La Coste, 13610, Le Puy-Sainte-Réparade.

For full details of all venues can be found on our website at spectrum-ifa.com/seminars

If you cannot attend one of our seminars and you would anyway like to have a confidential discussion about any aspect of financial and/or inheritance planning, please contact me either by e-mail at daphne.foulkes@spectrum-ifa.com or by telephone on 04 68 20 30 17.

The above outline is provided for information purposes only and does not constitute advice or a recommendation from The Spectrum IFA Group to take any particular action on the subject of investment of financial assets or on the mitigation of taxes.

The Spectrum IFA Group advisers do not charge any fees directly to clients for their time or for advice given, as can be seen from our Client Charter at spectrum-ifa.com/spectrum-ifa-client-charter
